It is finally our turn to try St. George’s Terroir Gin. We have read so much about, so using it in this Astoria cocktail was quite exciting.
Douglas fir, California bay laurel and coastal sage are a few of the slightly unexpected ingredients in this gin. And especially the fir shines through, creating an earthy, foresty gin that is actually quite different to most other gins we have tried.
The Astoria is basically a reversed Dry Martini, with a big amount of dry vermouth, and just a splash of gin. Hence it was very fitting to use a bold, characteristic and flavourful gin, like the Terroir Gin, in it.
An elegant and sophisticated cocktail this is indeed. We appreciated the ratio, being less boozy but probably more flavourful in the end. St George’s Terroir Gin is a catch! Too bad we only bought a small bottle. But hey, we have a very good reason to return to California!
2,5 oz dry vermouth
0,75 oz dry gin
2 dashes of orange bitters
Stir with fresh ice and strain into your most fancy coupe. Garnish with an olive.
